Anglesey Volunteers Wanted To Become Reminiscence Friends

Book of You is currently looking to recruit volunteer “Reminiscence Friends” on Anglesey to support people with dementia in their community through life reminiscence.

Over the past 18 months, we’ve successfully worked with people with dementia in Denbighshire, Conwy, Wrexham, Flintshire and Merseyside. Recently, we’ve been successful in securing funding from Horizon Nuclear Power which will allow us to help people with dementia on Anglesey. We aim to do this by training a group of volunteers who would then work with people either on a one to one basis in the person’s own home, or in small social groups. We would provide the tablet computers, dongles (if necessary) to run the sessions, and full reminiscence/Book of You training including a Dementia Friends Awareness session. We would also pay for a DBS check, if they don’t already have one.

Volunteers would need to have at least a basic level of computers as our life story books are digital and not printed (see our website for more details). We are currently locating the people who they can work with – hopefully these will be living as close to the volunteers as possible, although travel expenses will be covered if this isn’t possible.
