Flintshire Dementia Care Homes Project

We recently received funding from Flintshire County Council to work with 10 Dementia Care Homes across the county in 2021. The training will be rolled out in 3 x 3 monthly groups, for staff and also for family of the residents. Each participating home will get a Book of You account for life for each of their residents and also an account for each attending member of staff to use to familiarise themselves with the templates. These digital books can be used by family members to keep in touch with their loved ones with messages, photos, films and music and also for staff to better support person-centred care.
Under the current Covid restrictions, of course we are still not able to visit the care homes in person, but during 2020 we have taken the opportunity to train our staff and volunteers both in-house and with Digital Communities Wales and are fully able to provide training and support successfully and safely via video link, phone and email.
The first information presentation was held last Thursday evening on Zoom and was well attended, and homes and families are keen to start. At the end of the project, there will be a Social Value report based around any improvements Book of You brought to people’s wellbeing, family connections, engagement etc that can be used by the care homes to share with clients, families, regulators and shareholders.
