Successful Bid from the National Lottery’s Heritage Fund
Posted on 05 Jun 2019
Book of You are excited to share with you our latest successful funding bid with Heritage Fund. This will be a slightly different way of working in that we aim to this time build 2 unique multimedia ‘community books’ that can be shared with the public on a newly designed Book of You website page. We will organise ongoing access to project web pages and the Community Memories and Personal Memories pages from this project in libraries and community centres across Conwy.
Some of you may be familiar with Facebook groups and pages that share old photos of towns, cities and villages (for example I’m a member of Wirral, Liverpool, Wallasey and Ruthin pages). This is a similar idea in that a group of older residents, some with dementia, can share and enjoy photographs and memories of a particular place within a social group and can then compile a Book of You around that town throughout the years that can serve as an enjoyable activity in itself, but can also be a wonderful piece of multimedia social history for all of us, whatever our age, to learn about what life was like over the years in one of our most loved towns.
The towns we are working with on this pilot are Rhos on Sea and Llanrwst. Very shortly we will be looking at speaking to people and groups within these towns to get started on this project. In the meantime, if you have memories about either of these towns or any old photographs, we’d love to hear from you. And thanks again to Heritage Lottery for helping us fund this fantastic project!
