Book of You back working in Wrexham

We’ve recently been successful in securing funding to run some small reminiscence projects in the Wrexham area. This is for people living with dementia and their carers. We’re really excited about this because it’s been quite a while since we’ve worked there. Our first presentation was last Thursday at Taith Ni in the Wynnstay Arms Hotel, and we’re presenting at Cerdd Ni, St Margaret’s Church, this coming Tuesday. We’ve already had good take up from carers at Taith Ni and will be looking at starting these groups as soon as possible… which brings me on to the next topic…
Our Associates will be helping out initially but we are really looking forward to recruiting some Wrexham-based volunteers who will work with the groups and who will provide the opportunity for these groups to continue beyond the normal 6 weeks, if required. We will be attending the AVOW recruitment day on 5th February (come and talk to us if you’re there!) and have shared the attached poster around social media, the Volunteering Wales Website, and will also be advertising the groups on DEWIS and elsewhere. Please get in touch if you’d be interested in volunteering with us for this project and/or please share the information with anyone else you think might be interested either in taking part or in volunteering with us.
The potential volunteers will be given full training on how to use Book of You with clients (and also given Dementia Friends Awareness training if they haven’t already had this). Personal skills – they should be good listeners, care about the elderly and be keen to help those living with dementia to live well and enjoy an activity that has been proven to increase wellbeing. Volunteering for Book of You is a valuable and enjoyable experience so why not give it a go?
