Life Reminiscence Volunteers Pilot – Burbo Bank Extension Community Fund
Posted on 06 Jul 2017
Book of You have recently been awarded a grant from the Burbo Bank Extension Community Fund. The monies for this grant programme are being provided by DONG Energy UK. This will enable us to work with people living with dementia in the Denbighshire and Flintshire coastal areas (see the map here for more details: http://www.grantscape.org.uk/fund/burbo-bank-extension-community-fund/
This will form another part of our successful supported Book of You sessions with volunteers who will work on a one-to-one basis with a person living with dementia and their carer, or in small group sessions. The volunteer will help build the multimedia book, so no computer experience is necessary.
Book of You helps people with dementia to be happy through the proven value of life reminiscence, sharing words, music, pictures and video. It encourages and enhances communication, improves mood and well-being, stimulates positive memories and can be tailored to an individual and their stage of memory loss. It can also serve as a legacy for the family for generations to come.
Book of You will provide the volunteer training and will support the individuals and families involved in the project. To register your interest to take part in this project, as a potential service-user or volunteer, check eligibility and find out more, please call 01492 555381 or email info@bookofyou.co.uk.
